Chief of Staff
Alison Sanders serves as Chief of Staff to the President at San Francisco State University. Prior to her current position, she was the Interim Associate Vice President and Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at San Francisco State University, where she oversaw all of the functions of grant and contract administration for the University.
Since 2003, Alison has held a number of positions related to grant and contract administration at San Francisco State University, including Grant Administrator, Compliance Officer, and Special Projects Manager. She has served as the Chair of the AOA Research Administration Committee, a committee of the Auxiliary Organizations Association in the California State University system.
Alison serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of the University Corporation at SF State, the non-profit auxiliary organization that supports a number of campus initiatives and activities. In 2017, she completed the Leadership SF program, and in 2018, completed the Institute for Higher Education Management program at Harvard University.
Alison received a B.S. in Zoology and an M.A. in Marine Biology from SF State. Prior to transitioning into positions in the University administration, she worked as a research and field biologist on a number of projects in San Francisco Bay and Belize. Alison serves on the board of the Pacifica Land Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving local open space.
