Biography

Ann M. Sherman became the Interim Vice President of Administration & Finance at San Francisco State University in January 2017. She is responsible for all facets of Administration and Finance, including Budget and Fiscal Affairs; Information Technologies; Facilities Operations; Risk & Data Analytics; Physical Planning & Development; Human Resources; Audit & Advisory Services; and Business Operations. She currently serves on the President’s Cabinet and provides wide-ranging direction and guidance for the campus according to strategic needs and CSU directives.

Ann previously served as the Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources, joining the SF State leadership team in April, 2014.  Her former positions have prepared her well for the scope of her current responsibilities, having served as the Director of Human Resources/EO Officer/Title IX Officer for seven years at Northern Michigan University (NMU); successively responsible positions in the medical device industry, culminating in her role as Vice President of Business & Customer Support for Viasys Corp.; and strategic and Division Controller positions during her seven years with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company.

Sherman’s passion is “releasing the power of human potential in organizations.” Her parents were both educators, and Sherman finds a strong fit with her personal values and mission of higher education.  Ann is most proud of the results of SF State’s Emerging Leaders Program, which has prepared the most promising emerging leaders to assume enhanced responsibilities.

Sherman earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan at Dearborn and conducted her graduate work at Wayne State University’s Industrial/Organizational Ph.D. program in Detroit. Her oldest son is a graduate from the University of Michigan, and her younger son is attending NMU. With her enthusiasm, optimism, and sense of humor, Ann keeps grounded and focused on continuous improvement and practical problem-solving.
